Central Indiana Youth Soccer League sponsors two scholarships – one for players and one for referees. Below is information about the league's Allen Katner Memorial Soccer Scholarship Fund for players and the John Denkmann Referee Scholarship Fund.

Soccer clubs in Indiana are encouraged to apply for scholarships to help in the development of soccer players and referees.

The scholarship funds are supported through gifts from individuals and groups as well as by fines levied against teams in the league for rule violations.

Below are the guidelines for applying for each of the scholarships.

One of the driving forces in Allen Katner's life was his desire that, regardless of financial circumstances, all young soccer players have opportunities to develop their skills, talents, love and appreciation for the game. The Allen Katner Memorial Soccer Scholarship Fund has been established to ensure that Dr. Katner's desire be continued. Over the past several years, we have given out numerous scholarships to deserving youths.

The mission of this fund is to assist young soccer players who may be denied an opportunity to grow and develop in the sport of soccer due to a lack of financial resources. These barriers to opportunities may arise in the form of expenses for membership on a travel team, the tuition for attending a select or community soccer camp, tournament expenses, the cost of attending coaching clinics, and so forth.

Eligibility will be limited to youth players, under the age of 20, who live in the Central Indiana area. We expect that requests will first be forwarded to the club for whom the player plays and should be reviewed by the respective Club Scholarship Committee. No requests by parents or players should be sent directly to the Katner Fund. All requests to this fund must come through the parent organization first. Financial aid that cannot be met by the Club Scholarship Committee will then be reviewed by the Katner Fund Scholarship Committee. Decisions relating to the awards from the Memorial Fund will be made by Katner Memorial Scholarship Committee. Requests should be made in writing, briefly explaining the circumstances behind the request. Please send all requests to the following address:

John Denkmann Referee Scholarship Fund

He was one of the founders of the Central Indiana Youth Soccer Referees' Association, now the Indiana Soccer Referees' Association, and was one of the earliest board members of the Central Indiana Youth Soccer League.

In 1998, John became state director of referee instruction. In that position, he was responsible for directing the training of new soccer referees in Indiana.

John was very active in the administrative duties for CIYSL.

Scholarship parameters:
1. Up to ten (10) scholarships will be awarded each year.
2. Each scholarship totals $100.
3. The scholarship is to be applied toward the cost of the referee course and referee uniform.

Qualifications:
1. Applicants can be male or female.
2. Minimum age of applicant will be 12 years old.
3. The applicant should request a short statement from a sponsoring soccer club on why he or she should be awarded a referee scholarship. The applicant should submit this letter to CIYSL.

Scholarship recipient:
1. The money will be dispensed to the sponsoring soccer club in the name of the scholarship winner.
